- Optical methods (microfluorimetric measurements, confocal laser scanning microscopy,
  super resolution microscopy, freeze fracture electron microscopy),

- From innate host defense mechanisms to adaptive immunity
- Modelling of physiological systems: Body composition, thermoregulation, exercise physiology; circadian rhythms
- Epithelial "transportomes"
- Trans- and paracellular transport coupling
- Structure/function relationships of transport proteins
